Trouble brings us back to the wonderful world of Dogwood Lane, and it is my favorite book in the series so far! Each book gets better and better. Flirtatious carpenter Penn Etling is knocked for a loop when new-in-town Avery Perry doesn’t fall for his many charms. Not used to being turned down, Penn finds he can’t let Avery walk away. Avery has a secret: She’s already experienced Penn’s charms many years ago but he doesn’t remember. She knows that she can’t let history repeat, but fate (or her aunt) keeps throwing them together.

I loved the relationship between Penn and Avery, and Penn and Matt, and Penn and Dane, and Penn and… okay maybe I just loved Penn once he stopped the constant innuendo. He takes a real journey on the love train to find out his views of himself and relationships maybe aren’t as hard coded as he thought. There is hilarious banter, serious sparks, and lots of familiar favorites from the previous books. 5 stars

Protecting What’s Mine- Lucy Score

My Take:

I loved this book so hard. Dr. Mack and Chief Linc were so perfect for each other- each is strong, daring, and smart mouthed. The Wonder Woman to his Superman. It was very steamy, very funny, but also very emotionally charged. It’s a perfect balance between humorous and heartfelt. Mackenzie is not perfect, nor does she claim to be and I appreciate her journey. Linc however might be the perfect man- jacked, tattooed, loves children and dogs, and will run into a burning building to save you.

I didn’t realize this was part of a world I already knew until Mack ran into Aldo. It’s my favorite book about Benevolence by far. 5 enthusiastic stars!

My Take:

Hazel Kiegen has decided she’s not interested in dating. After all, she has plenty of better things to keep herself busy- she loves her new job, the scientific method, her fluffy cat, and her friends in the Dirty Martini Running Club. Now if only her online enemy, Corban Nash, would stop claiming to have unlocked the secret to falling in love, without being able to prove it scientifically. Much to Hazel’s chagrin, Corban is hired at her university, and even worse, they have to work together. The more she gets to know Corban, the more she realizes perhaps she doesn’t hate him at all.

First of all, Corban is adorable. Disheveled, distracted, caring, full of animal facts, a BOSS in bed, and secretly jacked- what more could you want? I love Hazel’s relationship with her friends, and her penchant for dirty vodka martinis. The sparks between them are intense, and whoa there are some very very hot scenes (I could mention specifics but don’t want to ruin the surprise). I highly recommend if you like awkward encounters, swoony nerds, humor, and/or friendship. 5 stars!
