In A Rush

Happy Tuesday! In A Rush is out today, thank you to the author for the ARC.

If you know me, you know my unrelenting love for In A Jam, the first book in this series (though either can 100% be read as a standalone) so I was so excited to get more in this world! This was a laugh out loud romance, filled with long term pining (from him), a fulfilled marriage pact, and revenge against a two-timing ex.

I love a marriage of convenience romance but a revenge marriage is even better. Emme recently found out her ex was cheating on her, and the two have to be in a wedding party together very soon. Her old BFF Ryan reminds her of the marriage pact they made in high school – they’re both 30 and unmarried, so they elope in order to make her ex feel bad and also to clean up Ryan’s reputation.

Ryan and Emme are both flawed characters, which I loved even if they were at times frustrating (just like real people are!) There were a lot of genuinely hilarious moments, and it was so wonderful to see characters we’ve met in previous books but also meet new ones. I especially loved Ryan’s teammates!

Though I really did find this enjoyable, there were perhaps too many similarities plot wise to In A Jam for me  (marriage of convenience, high school friends, he’s secretly pined for her for years, she’s a teacher who recently got dumped and is feeling adrift, same female friend groups, etc) which made it hard not to compare the two. It didn’t quite stack up as well for me or have the same heart as In A Jam. I also found Shay and Noah to be way more likable than Emme and Ryan.

Overall though I did like it and enjoyed my time back in this world!

The Ex Effect- Karla Sorensen

ARC REVIEW

Ava Baker has things under control. She’s thriving in her high profile job as PR manager of an NFL team, even if she’ll never quite measure up to her perfect doctor sister in her family’s eyes. That is, she has everything under control until Matthew Hawkins joins the team, and she has to work side by side with her first crush (and sister’s ex fiance to boot).  The spark between them is immediate, and soon they can’t keep away from each other.   How will Ava reconcile the pressures of her family and job all while falling in love?

There’s just something about Karla Sorensen’s writing that I love. Some authors just spark an immediate connection to the material for me, and I don’t even like football. That’s the sign of a well written book if I don’t even care about it taking place in a world I don’t care for.  The characters felt real, including their flaws, even the secondary characters (some of which I hope we will see again). The spark between Ava and Matthew was seriously hot. I highly recommend this one!

Official Synopsis

The headline could write itself:

Matthew Hawkins, star defensive end, comes out of retirement to play for the Washington Wolves. Which is perfectly fine by Ava Baker—it makes her job as publicist for the team easier.

There’s only two problems. This particular football player was her first crush. The bigger problem: Matthew Hawkins was once engaged to her older sister.

It’s been ten years since Ava has seen Matthew. He’s bigger, better looking, and best of all—completely single. Despite his history with her sister, the attraction between Ava and Matthew isn’t so one-sided anymore.

It’s hot enough to burn down the entire city of Seattle.

But this headline is far more complicated to write. And not just for the press or what it means for her family— because once her heart is involved, there’s no predicting the ending.

About the Author:

Well, let’s see … I’m a wife and a mother. If the things that I write bring a smile to someone’s face, then I’ve done my job.  I am obsessed with Outlander (both the books and the show). I’m almost exclusively a romance reader, which means some people will never consider me a literary snob. If I could meet one historical figure, it would be Jane Austen. I received my Bachelors in Public Relations and worked in health care marketing before I had my babies. I hate Twitter. I do it, but I hate it. Also, if you want to get on my good side, bring me wine and I’ll love you forever.
