ARC Review: Skylar Anderson’s standards are high. No man is rich enough or good enough. One night she decides to break her own no-one-night-stand rule and have a tryst with a handsome stranger she meets at a bar. Cue to the next day aboard the yacht she works on as the lead steward, where she meets the new deckhand: Landon, her supposed one night stand. Will they be able to resist each other in such close quarters?

I always love Louise Bay’s writing style, and its so interesting to read about a lifestyle I can hardly imagine (Being on a yacht with full crew in the South of France?). The sparks between them were fiery, and their character development and backstories were well fleshed out. Each has their secrets but all is revealed as the story progresses.

My only negative is that there is something Landon does, in an effort to protect Skylar, that makes me want to punch him. While I appreciate his protective nature, it doesn’t make him any less of an idiot for approaching it the way he does. I still loved the book, but I was so annoyed with him by the end I couldn’t quite get over. 4/5 Stars

Official Blurb:

The last thing I’m looking for is a man.
Scratch that.
The very last thing I’m looking for is love.

Love isn’t something to long for, it’s something to run from. I learned my lesson young and I learned it fast.

When Landon Wolf swaggers into my world, I just can’t see straight—he’s brooding and British, protective and provocative. So I set aside my rules for just one night.

One night that turns into a summer.

Landon Wolf needs to take his British ass back to London. This American girl is immune.

Impervious to the delicious way he says my name.

Unmoved by the way he touches me and makes every bad memory disappear.

And completely blind to his hard body, husky-like eyes and lickable jaw.

I’m not looking for love—I just hope it hasn’t found me.

Crazy Beautiful Love- K.L. Grayson

ARC REVIEW Crazy Beautiful Love is the next book in the Dirty Dicks series about the Allen family in small town Heaven, Texas. We first met Tess Walker as Monroe’s best friend, who is engaged to one of Beau Allen’s brothers. Tess hides her mysterious past, but one thing she can’t conceal is that she hates Beau Allen. Beau is a world renowned photographer who has spent his adult life traveling around the world with no inclination to settle down and plant roots like his brothers and sister until Tess causes him to reevaluate.

Tess’ mysterious past slowly unveils itself, and although it could have been very angsty due to the heavy topics, it’s all handled gracefully without dragging down the lighter nature of the book. I really liked Beau, he’s a steady, constant force for Tess, and a great book boyfriend for us.  The chemistry between them was great. My only complaint, and it’s a very minor one, is there was no real conflict in the book. The only hurdle is they both were afraid to confess their feelings. I still found it super enjoyable to read, and liked getting to know the main characters, and revisiting the family from the previous books. 4/5 stars

Official Synopsis:

There’s a fine line between love and hate…

Tess Walker is game for anything—except world-renowned photographer Beau Allen, the guy who inadvertently sent her life into a downward spiral. It has taken Tess years to find herself and become a person she can be proud of. Now Beau is back and making a play for her heart…a play she’s not sure she wants him to make. The more he pushes, the more her walls crumble, and Tess soon discovers that his sweet kisses and even sweeter words might be just what she’s been looking for in life.

And Tess Walker hates Beau Allen…

Beau Allen has it all: loving family, plentiful friends, and a job that sends him all over the world. What he doesn’t have is a home—or a reason to make one. Living out of a suitcase isn’t ideal, but he’s perfectly content. That is, until a beautiful woman barrels her way into his life and has him second-guessing everything. Tess is nothing like the women he’s used to and everything like the woman he wants. Grounded, strong, funny, sweet, and sexy. Did he mention sexy? Her curves make it hard for him to think, and his life’s mission soon becomes making her laugh and sigh and moan, because he really likes it when she moans. But Beau isn’t used to sticking around. Still, he’s hoping she’ll give him a reason to stay.

Doesn’t she?

Work In Progress- Staci Hart

ARC REVIEW

Do you ever have trouble reading a book because you love it so much you have to keep putting it down so it doesn’t end? Yeah, that.

Amelia Hall has never been kissed.  She rarely goes out, and keeps close to only her fellow Red Lipstick Coalition babes. When she meets sexy bad boy of the publishing world Thomas Bane, he challenges her in ways she couldn’t turn down: marrying him to help clean up his reputation in exchange for an opportunity for the job of her dreams.

Amelia is a compelling character, not one I can necessarily relate to on a personal level, but one I can certainly understand what drives her choices.  Tommy, however, is the perfect book boyfriend. He’s a hot, broody bad boy with a heart of gold. He lays all his cards out at the beginning, which I appreciate. I don’t always need a ton of angst and guessing about intention. I enjoyed the slow burn relationship, the pacing felt real. I really liked the way the characters brought out the best in each other, especially Amelia’s change into a more confident adult.  The sparks between them were evident at the start, but Tommy’s patience and understanding were really the hot part to me.

I highly highly recommend this one, or any other book by Staci for that matter. It’s just a perfect example of what a contemporary romance novel should be: full of heart, heat, and humor.  5/5 stars

Official Synopsis:

I never thought my first kiss would be on my wedding day.

But here I stand, clutching a bouquet of pale pink roses behind the doors of a Las Vegas chapel, and at the end of the aisle is the absolute last man I imagined would be waiting for me.

Thomas Bane.

Bestselling author. Notorious bad boy. Savagely handsome, dark as sin, chiseled as stone. And somehow, my soon-to-be husband.

Marry him, and I’ll land my dream job. Save him, and I’ll walk away with everything I’ve ever wanted. All I have to do is remember it’s all for show. None of it is real, no matter how real it feels.

But first, I have to survive the kiss.

And with lips like his, my heart doesn’t stand a chance.

Side Hustle- Emily Goodwin

ARC Review

Scarlet Cooper is used to lying, cheating, and stealing in order to support her family. When a new opportunity to make money presents itself, she agrees to nanny for a rich family with hopes of conning the husband. Instead, she finds she agreed to nanny for a single father who is running for sheriff. Left with no other option but to work for him anyway, she slowly finds herself falling for both Weston, and his cute son Jackson.

The chemistry between Scarlet and Weston was crackling from their first meeting, and I always appreciate a cute kid. It was enjoyable seeing characters from the first two books in the Dawson family series (Cheat Codes and End Games).  I liked seeing Scarlet’s growth and change throughout the book. My only issue is Weston was maybe a little too quick to forgive and accept, especially considering his career, but I guess morality is fluid and its not like Scarlet didn’t have reason for her “sins.”

Overall I found it very enjoyable. 4/5 stars

Official Synopsis:

When Scarlet Cooper takes a new job as a nanny, she assumes she’s going to work for the rich couple who hired her. But instead of pulling up to their million-dollar estate, she finds herself on the front porch of a humble farmhouse, looking into the eyes of dark and brooding single dad, Weston Dawson.

It’s bad enough that Weston doesn’t have a fortune to charm out of him, but he’s also a cop.  After marrying his high school sweetheart only to have her up and leave weeks after their baby was born, Weston has sworn off women for life. All that matters now is taking care of his son, Jackson.

If anyone can break down the tough exterior of the former soldier, it’s Scarlet. But just when she’s close to getting exactly what she wants, she’s faced with a whole new challenge, which just might be the biggest con she’s ever pulled: pretending she doesn’t love him.

The Ex Effect- Karla Sorensen

ARC REVIEW

Ava Baker has things under control. She’s thriving in her high profile job as PR manager of an NFL team, even if she’ll never quite measure up to her perfect doctor sister in her family’s eyes. That is, she has everything under control until Matthew Hawkins joins the team, and she has to work side by side with her first crush (and sister’s ex fiance to boot).  The spark between them is immediate, and soon they can’t keep away from each other.   How will Ava reconcile the pressures of her family and job all while falling in love?

There’s just something about Karla Sorensen’s writing that I love. Some authors just spark an immediate connection to the material for me, and I don’t even like football. That’s the sign of a well written book if I don’t even care about it taking place in a world I don’t care for.  The characters felt real, including their flaws, even the secondary characters (some of which I hope we will see again). The spark between Ava and Matthew was seriously hot. I highly recommend this one!

Official Synopsis

The headline could write itself:

Matthew Hawkins, star defensive end, comes out of retirement to play for the Washington Wolves. Which is perfectly fine by Ava Baker—it makes her job as publicist for the team easier.

There’s only two problems. This particular football player was her first crush. The bigger problem: Matthew Hawkins was once engaged to her older sister.

It’s been ten years since Ava has seen Matthew. He’s bigger, better looking, and best of all—completely single. Despite his history with her sister, the attraction between Ava and Matthew isn’t so one-sided anymore.

It’s hot enough to burn down the entire city of Seattle.

But this headline is far more complicated to write. And not just for the press or what it means for her family— because once her heart is involved, there’s no predicting the ending.

About the Author:

Well, let’s see … I’m a wife and a mother. If the things that I write bring a smile to someone’s face, then I’ve done my job.  I am obsessed with Outlander (both the books and the show). I’m almost exclusively a romance reader, which means some people will never consider me a literary snob. If I could meet one historical figure, it would be Jane Austen. I received my Bachelors in Public Relations and worked in health care marketing before I had my babies. I hate Twitter. I do it, but I hate it. Also, if you want to get on my good side, bring me wine and I’ll love you forever.

ARC REVIEW

“Am I a bet? Am I a fucking bet?” is not a quote from this book, of course, but the line from the iconic 90s movie She’s All That was playing on repeat in my head as I read this book.  I’m going to keep this review as spoiler free as possible, but rest assured the leading man of this book, Sam, makes his bet for much more noble reasons that Freddie Prinze Jr’s Zack.

Sam is a player with a heart of gold. He’s never committed to a woman before, but actually seems to like and respect them.  He’s the perfect book boyfriend for so many reasons (talent, charisma, and good looks is just the tip of the iceberg with this one). Val would love to commit to a man, but would have to over come her insecurities and find one first.  She is very relatable with her insecurities about her curvy figure, just as most women have struggled with body issues and self acceptance. Sam begins to help tutor her to make her more comfortable with all things man related- flirting, dating, kissing (and more?).

I loved the relationship between the two and the sparks between them were seriously h-o-t.  The book is over all fun and flirty, its a great example of what a romantic comedy should be. It’s a quick read due to the fun nature you’ll just want to keep reading to keep the (dance) party going. You get to see your old favorites in the Red Lipstick Coalition (first seen in Staci’s book Piece of Work) including Rin and Court. I loved this book! 5/5 stars.

Official Synopsis:

He’s a player.

He plays the bass with expert fingers. He plays women with intoxicating charm. And he’ll play me with the ease of a virtuoso.

Who better to teach me to play than the master himself?

I’m his model student, front row, pencil sharp. Pick up lines? I’ve got them. Free drinks? By the dozen. Kissing? Let me grab my chapstick.

But the most valuable lesson I’ve learned is that there’s so much I don’t know. Like why his touch sets off a chain reaction straight to my nethers. Or how I’m certain each kiss is the best I’ll ever have, until the moment his lips take mine again.

There’s so much I don’t know.

Like the fact that I’m only a bet.

But we are what we are. He’s a player, through and through.

And I’m the fool who fell in love with him.
