My Take: I loved it! This is a great addition to the Washington Wolves family, and the Ward family as well. It’s always fun to see characters we’ve met and loved already, and this sets up a new world for the Ward sisters. This could absolutely be read as a standalone, since its “next gen”.
I loved the relationship between Molly and Noah and how it changed and evolved from when we first met them. I love a grumpy leading man, and Noah did not disappoint. Plenty of sparks, humor, and just a small amount of sports talk- just how I like a sports romance. 5/5 stars

My Take: I LOVED this book. I sat down to read a couple chapters and accidentally spent the whole day reading the whole book … whoops. I didn’t want to do laundry anyway. This book grabbed me from the first second and obviously never let me go.
It’s so sweet, so funny, and so swoony. I always love Karla’s work (I see you, Washington Wolves), and I think this was the perfect kick off to the Smartypants Romance world because while it touches perfectly on aspects of Green Valley, it also carries its own weight and creates its own reality within the Donner Bakery and the Buchanan family. If I didn’t already know who Jennifer and Cletus were they wouldn’t have stood out to me, but I loved seeing the Winston touches. I was interested to see how an author I already love would write a book in a town I already love created by a different author. It turns out, it was awesome.
I loved the characters. Levi was perfection, and while Joss could be slightly annoying at times (but hey, as she points out: she is only twenty one, she’s allowed to be immature sometimes) I do love that she was flawed. I think it’s wonderful that it’s an inclusive couple- physical disabilities don’t stop a person from falling in love and its not something you often see in the Romance world (or really in any fiction genre I’ve seen). I love that it didn’t shy away from mentioning the reality of a disability even if its not sexy.

Not once in the past five years had my feelings lessened for her. I had just learned to live with them. In my junior year of undergrad, I was taking a class on brain pathology in injuries, and a man came to talk to us about how he learned to live without his right arm after it was amputated.
He told us about how, even years after he lost his arm, his brain still triggered sensations to the limb that was no longer there. The adult brain, in particular, struggled to reorganize after the loss of a limb, and given that four out of five amputees suffer from phantom pain symptoms, some of which were incredibly debilitating, it was a lesson that stuck with me.
I wasn’t fool enough to think that me loving Jocelyn was on par with a man who’d lost his arm, but something about the way he talked plucked at a chord inside me. Sometimes my brain struggled to remember that we were just friends.
She’d never dated, never even hinted that she wanted to. She’d never given me a longing glance. Never stared at my mouth like she wondered what it tasted like.
But my hands never, not once, stopped wanting to reach for hers. My fingers always, always itched to dig into her crazy hair and see what the curve of her scalp felt like.

(ARC REVIEW:) The Marriage Effect centers around two characters we’ve met previously in the Washington Wolves series, but can absolutely be read as a standalone. Logan Ward, football player, upstanding guy who’s always made an impression previously, and guardian to his four younger sisters, and feisty former model Paige McKinney, who’ve we’ve met previously as Allie, the owner of the Washington Wolves, best friend. Logan finds himself in need of a wife to help maintain guardianship of his sisters, and Paige just so happens to find herself in need of a husband for her own reasons. She finds herself impetuously blurting out she’s Logan’s fiance in front of the worst possible person, and Logan and Paige quickly strike a deal. They get married as a means to an end, but soon realize they have more in common than they ever would have imagined.
So, full disclosure. Do I love football? No, I do not. But do I love sports romances? They are okay. But I sure love the Washington Wolves series, and The Marriage Effect has been my favorite of the series. Why? Because it’s not about the sport, it’s about the people, and their motivations, passions, and intentions. The sport itself is a background character, enriching the story but not overwhelming.
The spark between Paige and Logan is explosive, regardless of how hard Logan tries to fight it. They balance each other out in the best possible way, and together on the challenges raising four teenage girls bring. There is emotion, drama, humor, love, and family. It’s a story of fighting for what/who you love, and the journey you take when falling in love. I love that Paige is a fiesty, funny, take no shit kind of girl and that Logan is a strong, steady protector who loves hard if you’re lucky enough to be in his circle.
And hey, if this book is any indication, maybe I do like sports romances. Or maybe I’m just a big fan of Karla Sorensen’s. 5/5 stars.

There’s just something about Karla Sorensen’s writing that I love. Some authors just spark an immediate connection to the material for me, and I don’t even like football. That’s the sign of a well written book if I don’t even care about it taking place in a world I don’t care for. The characters felt real, including their flaws, even the secondary characters (some of which I hope we will see again). The spark between Ava and Matthew was seriously hot. I highly recommend this one!
