ARC Review: I was super excited to read this one. K.L. Grayson is one of my favorites, and I’ve wanted Drake’s story since we first met him. Drake did not disappoint! (Neither did K.L.) The sparks between Drake and Abby were apparent from the start. Abby’s personality and “quirks” were interesting to read about. I appreciate that Drake was willing to go all in and take responsibility for his actions and make a big sacrifice for her. It’s a quick, steamy read. 4/5 Stars

Series I’m Loving:The Big Sky Series

Technically I believe this is two series according to Goodreads, but contains many overlapping characters existing in the same small town. There are currently 8 books or novellas in the series (written by Kristen Proby) but there is an exciting crossover event to come that will bring a new book by the author and 6 new novellas from guest authors that will take place in Cunningham Falls or include characters we’ve met before (more on this soon!).

I think there’s too many for me to talk about on a book by book basis, so I’ll just give my thoughts on the series in general.

I love the small but vibrant town that is adjacent to Glacier National park and a ski resort, so there is no shortage of activities for the characters to partake in. The descriptions are so good I feel like I’ve been to this place. Each couple is different, obviously, but in general the men are strong, reliable, and faithful, and the women are even stronger, sassy, and career oriented. There is is a bit of drama but not a lot of angst.

In general these are sweet stories about falling in love. There’s not a lot of will they-won’t they- you know for sure they will. They tend to fall in love early on in the books, the rest is hot sex and figuring out how to fit into each other’s lives.

The truth is they read to me like the harlequin romance novels I used to sneak from my mother when I was young, but updated for today’s audience. I really enjoyed reading each one. They are quick, fun reads that leave you feeling good about love.  

I can’t wait for the crossover series to see more of the town and its characters!

99% Mine- Sally Thorne

Darcy Barrett has traveled the world, and knows unequivocally the best man in the world is her brother’s best friend, Tom Valeska but because of this, he is off limits (along with the fact he is engaged to his very long term lady friend). Darcy returns to her home town to work on the house her grandmother left her and her brother, only to discover Tom will be the project manager of the renovation. Can she resist her attraction when in such close quarters on a daily basis?

After the absolute LOVE I felt for Sally’s debut novel, The Hating Game, I was curious to see if she could do it again. Surely it would be impossible to top that exquisite example of what a romantic comedy should be. And guess what? I liked 99% Mine even better!  The author has an entirely unique voice, one that in turn makes me laugh and cry back to back. Her words make me feel all the feelings. I am a fast reader and sometimes I’m not sure if I always pick up on every emotion because I’m tearing through, but even with the speedy flow of this book I still felt it all. The love, the passion, the humor … ugh. I didn’t want the book to end. I can’t recommend this (or The Hating Game!) highly enough. 5/5 stars, but would rate higher if I could.

Tumble- Adriana Locke

Neely Kimber’s back in her hometown after burning out at her big city job after avoiding it for a decade. Shortly after arriving she immediately runs into her ex, the reason she’s been avoiding the town.  She finds herself growing closer to him, after she realizes the young girl she’s been mentoring is his daughter. Can they overcome their past to work together on their future?

I love Adriana Locke’s writing style. She engages you immediately, and you really grow to know her characters and their intentions.  This book is a good one if you like a small town, single father, second chances story. And I do love all those things!

However I always have issue when the “hero” is a dumbass and makes dumbass decisions that impact our heroine and everyone else without consulting them. It’s so insulting to the heroine and the reader. I understand he was young and thought he was doing what was best but it’s super annoying.  I just can never get over details like this and it kind of spoils the book for me. I’m still going to give it 4 out of 5 stars due to the awesome writing and characters.

Irresistible- Melanie Harlow

Frannie and Mack live very different lives. Frannie is a young, sheltered woman helping out at the inn her parents run. Mack is a decade older, single father of three precocious girls who works as CFO at the same inn/winery. Their paths bring them together, and soon they can’t resist each other.

This is a straightforward pure love story. There is minimal angst or drama, just the sweet story of two people falling in love. There is plenty of passion between Frannie and Mack though, don’t be concerned by my “sweet” designation. If you just want to read about people falling in love and their path to get there (and I do!), this is a fun quick read. 4/5 stars
