The Most Wonderful Crime of the Year

This was so fun!

It’s a murder mystery rom-com between two rival authors who are invited to an English country estate at Christmas under mysterious circumstances when (gasp!) their hostess goes missing. They have to work together to solve what happened which leads them right into danger (and, perhaps, into each other’s arms).

It was honestly just thoroughly entertaining, it was very quickly paced and I raced through to find out what happened. The MMC is a charming golden retriever who was very easy to fall for, while the FMC is more of a black cat but her walls are up for good reason and I just really loved how their relationship unfolded.

It was twisty and turny and really just a lot of fun! The blurb mentions Knives Out, which I haven’t actually seen, but I definitely got modern Agatha Christie vibes, and also Clue (the movie), but set in a closed door rom-com.

Definitely recommend it if you’re looking for something fun & light & easy reading in the best way!

Just For The Summer

Just For the Summer is out today! Thank you to the publisher for the advanced copy.

Abby continues her streak as World’s Best Romcom Author! She has the ability to make me laugh and cry at the same time like no other author I’ve ever read.  I’ve loved every book she’s written and this is no exception.

This is a book about two people who both have the same love curse – everyone they date meets the love of their life after they break up. They decide to short term date each other (just for the summer) and pouf! Their curses will be canceled out. We follow them on a series of dates, and of course real feelings develop along the way.

We first met Justin in Yours Truly as a supportive side character so I was so glad to watch him get his HEA. He was truly just a good dude, always there for everyone else even when it’s to his detriment. I love an upstanding, big hearted man who’s not afraid to talk about his feelings.

Emma is a travel nurse, moving around from destination to destination, never settling or putting down roots. She had a rough upbringing which affects her in every way, the only person who’s ever had a piece of her heart is her BFF. She had a real journey to go on here to accept love into her life, and though I found her frustrating at times, I appreciated her character arc and growth.

Together they were adorable. I loved their dates, planned and otherwise, and how they quickly became part of each other’s lives. They had such a great easy going relationship, it just felt so right. The full cast of supporting characters were excellent. I loved both the ones we got to revisit from previous books, and the new ones we were introduced to.

There also were plenty of easter eggs to her previous books, but I think you could read this one okay as a standalone if you wanted. It might be slightly less impactful if you haven’t read at least her two last books though.

Definitely recommend but check your TWs!

Flirting With Forever

What a sweet ending to this series! I have thoroughly enjoyed this romcom series about a group of ladies brought together by their love of running and dirty martinis.

This one is an opposites attract/neighbor/single dad romance between Nora, the last single member of the dirty martini running club. Though all her friends have recently fallen in love, Nora isn’t looking for that in her own life. She wouldn’t mind a fling with the hot tattooed single dad next door, though. Dex doesn’t need the complication of a fling, not while he’s raising his impressionable teenage daughter alone, but his attraction to Nora is too much to resist – however, he wants more than a fling.

Nora was a strong, confident, independent woman and I appreciated the way she stood up for what she believed in. I love when the heroine is the commitment-phobe! Dex is a dream – gruff, but with a heart of gold. He’d do anything for his daughter and there’s nothing hotter than that for me. He’s also not afraid to put himself out there and make a grand gesture (swoon.) The chemistry between them was fiery melt-your-kindle hot and I couldn’t tear my eyes away to see how they were going to work out their differences.

I loved Nora and Dex together but even more I loved each of their relationships with Dex’s daughter Riley! The tween years can be rough and we should all have been so lucky as to have Nora Lakes on our side at that time.

This one is perhaps less of a romcom and more of a regular contemporary romance than the others in the series, which is totally fine, just worth mentioning that the tone is a little more serious I think.

Overall a great end to a great series that I’m so sad has come to an end!
